Ridin On His Shoulder

So after all the fun frolics with the cows and the Texas cousins, Tony had an ‘interesting’ dream.  But first let me catch you up on the travel blog. From Texas, it was off to Colorado and yet another happy family reunion, this time with my sister’s family and extended associates.  It was fun and crazy for three days, whereupon we hugged them all goodbye, drove to Tony’s paternal cousins that we hadn't seen in 20 years, and had a really good, insightful visit.  (Am I boring you yet?) then we had lunch with some people who used to be listed on our will to raise our kids (Come to think of it, I guess they’re still listed, but the kids might have something to say about that today).  Again, we hadn’t seen them for years. They’re professional counsellors for the Navigators, so we did some ‘housecleaning’ of our minds with them and hopefully came away better people.  Then, because we had some time, we took our rental car and headed out across the Great Plains. I had c...

Our Huge Family of Believers

Hello Everyone,  Wow, what a week we've had!  I can't remember when I've had so much fun and inspiration.   Tony's cousins (sorry to my cousins who got neglected; we WILL catch you next time); anyway, we all took part in a three-day “Cow Processing Event.”  I'm sure there’s a better name for it, something like, “The Great Roundup”.  It was a pretty big learning curve for me, even watching from a distance.  Tony was able to contribute a little, although not as much as he would have liked to, due to a recovering knee. (which is doing great), It was a sight to behold, starting with cutting horses who got all the cattle in one place, separated calves from moms, then roped the appropriate ones around their back legs and drug them over for branding, snipping, vaccinating and ear tagging. We had a 9 yr old great nephew out there, as well as a 13 yr old of the same generation, who absolutely astounded us with their strength and enthusiasm, as well as “cow...

Self Sacrifice?

Good Morning Friends, Happy Mothers day!  This is one celebration that’s the same in the States as well as Australia and I think my topic today applies. As you are following my adventures now on this ‘road trip’ we’re taking for the next 3 months (sorry about that, and thanks for your patience!), I’d like to share with you some thoughts I had last week. So we had a riotous time for several days with my sister, who successfully turned 80, in San Diego.  She had invited 8 or her lifelong friends, who just happened to tally up to be  4 Christian girls and 4 who wouldn’t call themselves Christians, but were very agreeable to be around. We were all ‘ladies’ and adroitly avoided any inflammatory discussions, probably knowing we might be too old to gain any advantage. But then the one who was the most outspoken (about almost everything that I would totally disagree with) said something that floored me. We were joking about something to do with being self centred, and I too...

Closer Than a Brother/Sister

Today’s blog is coming to you from San Diego. Last week I asked you to pray for my cold; several of you commented that you had done just that, the cold cleared up and I thank you plenty!  While on the mend, Tony and I were able to attend and participate in two amazing meetings.  I had to laugh that in both services, every time I’d cough or sneeze, people from every angle were there with cough drops and Kleenexes.  Hawaii certainly has compassionate people! Either that or maybe everyone we hang out with is getting older and more infirm. I could also entertain the thought that they are simply afraid I’m communicable and would like me to stop the spread, but I won’t go there. Speaking of compassionate people, I should mention why I’m in San Diego.  Despite a rather tumultuous year my sister has had, I was delighted to learn that several friends were determined to help her celebrate her upcoming 80th birthday! I of course could never miss something like that, so while To...
