Those "Bonus" Days

 I had an interesting experience this morning.  I won’t say I’m getting senile but…….

So I usually lay awake for a while before I actually get up, just to give my ageing bones a chance to get used to the idea. This morning, I couldn’t see the clock but knew it was ‘about that time’ and found myself wondering why Tony was so out of it, still so happily sound asleep.

I began to feel panicky.  “He’s preaching today, so he’s usually up and at em before the chickens next door start trash braggin about their accomplishments. What’s gotten into him?  In fact I need to get cracking too, there’s so much to do. It’s even Father’s Day today (Australia); we ladies usually spruce up the snacks a bit, the kids are coming over after church ….. for LUNCH!

 “GET UP!” I yelled in my mind.  And then………. something twigged.

 “Wait a minute! This is SATURDAY!”

 There’s a great Children’s poet by the name of Shel Silverstein, and in his book, “Where the Sidewalk Ends”, he writes about a little girl who feels she’s too sick to go to school, but then realises it’s SATURDAY!  Very cute, I think one of my kids even memorised it.

One extra day………. I’ve got a whole extra day to get done all the things I was procrastinating about! I can arrive at Sunday prepared!

Isn’t life a wonderful gift?  I read where the oldest living British royal died at 92 in her sleep this morning.  (Katherine of Kent). She wasn’t given that ‘bonus’ Saturday.

We live as God ordains, He knows when we are conceived and He knows when it’s time to leave. I’m just glad today that I can write you this blog and thank HIM for that bit of extra time.

Some people read Psalm 39:4 and get depressed, but I prefer to think of it as a gentle reminder,

         “Show me, Lord, my life’s end

         and the number of my days;

         let me know how fleeting my life is.” (Psalm 39:4 NIV)

 Have a BLESSED week!!

Marsha
