Words of Truth

 Good morning friends,

I got several comments about my blog “Truth Hurts” and I thought I’d send you one from my cousin in Brazil.  Hope you enjoy it,

Here it is>

Sunday night found me, a tired but grateful missionary, sitting in my rocking chair, relaxing… to read Marsha’s blog.

“Truth Hurts”  It left me feeling o.k? maybe a bit empty?  Really?  I pondered the idea during my waking hours of the night.  I woke up this morning still thinking.about it.  Is this slogan true?

My mother-in-law was born in the United States of Danish immigrant parents.  She grew up in a very Danish community in Portland, OR.  Danes are known for being blunt.  They tell it like it is, as they see it!  My mother-in-law told a story about her mother and her aunt.  It seems that Tante Greta had her picture taken by a professional photographer.  She was not pleased with the results!  She complained as she showed the proofs to sister Minnie.   Minnie looked and consoled, “Well, Greta, what did you expect?”

Darrel and I live in Brazil.  We enjoy the Latin warmth,  which is entirely different than the Scandinavian bluntness.  If Tante Greta had lamented to my friend, Fatima would have responded with loving encouragement.  “Yes,”  concern in her voice.  “Why don’t you try another photographer?  In fact, if you like, I know one and I will go with you.”  And, once at the studio, Fatima would gently “fix” Tante Greta’s hair, adjust the neckline of her dress and encourage her to smile!

The Brazilian wants to please you so much that he will tell you what he thinks you want to hear.  As he promises to come to church, he is sincere but knows in his heart that he probably will not!  However, you should understand that he really meant to come.  He lets you down gently?

So, I think… “Truth Hurts”  It is sometimes painful, but leads to something beautiful if we respond correctly.  In the end, I prefer the truth, even when it's painful!    Jesus’ words are echoing  in my heart…”You shall know the truth and the truth will set you free.”

And now, back yo me, Marsha.  I promise I’ll get off the “Reality” lick.  Next week I’ll give you another chapter out of the book we’re writing about dying well.  We’re getting excited, but still have room for your stories of deaths you’ve heard about when God/Jesus/ ?? were present

Have a blessed week, Marsha
